PSG: Lionel Messi agrees on two-year contract after Barcelona exit
The 34-year-old Argentina star has agree to join PSG on a two-year contract after leaving his boyhood club, Barcelona. Messi is to earn £500,000-per-week.
After having announced his departure from Barcelona in a tearful press conference, Lionel Messi is all set to sign for Paris Saint-Germain. The Argentina superstar is set to sign a 2-year deal with an option to extend it by a year.
According to L’Equipe, and confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, Lionel Messi is traveling to France after agreeing to join Paris Saint-Germain, paving the way for one of the game’s greats to play for a new club after spending his entire career at Barcelona.
Messi became the most desired free agent in soccer history after his Barcelona contract expired. The Catalan club had hoped to keep Messi, who agreed to a pay cut, but it still wouldn’t have complied with the Spanish league’s financial regulations.
Messi was set to extend his 21-year stay at Barcelona by signing a new five-year deal this summer. But the Spanish club announced last Thursday that “financial and structural obstacles” meant the deal could not be completed, meaning Messi left as a free agent.
