Police: 7 killed as bandits attack Sokoto state
It will be recalled that an angry residents on Saturday attacked the divisional police headquarters in the Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State and killed 13 suspected bandits whose corpses were burnt to ashes.
A source in Sokoto says 17 security agents were killed in Friday evening attack in Dama village in the state.
It was reported that many soldiers were killed while others fled following the attack on their camp in a school in the village.
A security vehicle was also burnt down by the terrorists.
Mr Gobir said the security agents killed include nine soldiers, five mobile police officers and three officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp.
Multiple sources in Sokoto State have described an attack on a military camp in Sabon Birni local government area of the state by a gang of bandits allegedly led by the notorious Bello Turji.
Turji, 27, is a ruthless bandit operating in Sokoto and Zamfara States and had on different occasions rejected peace dialogue initiated by both state governments.
The gunmen were said to have attacked Lambar Tureta in Tureta LGA of Sokoto state in the early hours of Thursday.
The attackers were said to have invaded the community, which is located near the border area which Sokoto shares with with Zamfara, around 2am on Thursday.
Several persons were reportedly injured and are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
Manir Dan’iya, deputy governor of Sokoto, who led a delegation to the community on Thursday, urged the residents to remain calm.
