Facts About PDP’s New Boss, Iyorchia Ayu, You Should Know

Ayu recently disclosed that he has started getting calls from some top PDP members who defected to the ruling party that they are willing to return.

All Progressives Congress (APC) should be on its toes thinking of how to possibly restrategise so as to come up with mechanisms that will march whatever Ayu has to bring to the table for the PDP. The new PDP boss is famed for being one of the founding fathers of democracy in Nigeria.

Ayu is known to have made some sacrifices to make sure M.K.O. Abiola emerged an elected president in 1993.

And because Nigerians are quite sympathetic to Abiola with the belief that his election was the most credible the country has ever witnessed, they hold all his allies dear in their memories, one of which is Ayu.

This is a powerful factor that will attract support for the PDP in 2023. Considering that he is from the northcentral, a region that is now very vocal in its claim to the presidency in the next presidential election, Ayu’s emergence as the PDP chairman coincides with calls for power shift from the north.

Moreover, much of the unrest in the north that has been associated with leadership failure on the part of the APC may present Ayu as a better option to Mai Mala Buni and a harbinger of good things for the region from the PDP.

Ayu recently disclosed that he has started getting calls from some top PDP members who defected to the ruling party that they are willing to return.

“Once we start promoting internal democracy in the party, those defections will stop. They can’t stop totally but they will be minimized and I believe that there are so many who left that will come back to PDP. “Many of them are already calling me that they made a mistake because they went to something that is not a political party. How can a party be led by a governor who leaves his state and doesn’t even go there?”
