Police arrest fake soldier who tries to free detained Suspect in Niger. A man dressed up as a soldier and went to secure the release of a detained suspect has been arrested in Niger State.
Emmanuel Dominic, 28, was arrested when he went to Maitumbi police station in Minna to free his friend who was in custody, police said.
During interaction with the police operatives, Dominic who wore Nigerian Army service number 05313, was discovered to be fake as he could not answer some routine questions usually posed to security personnel. He was then arrested and interrogated whereupon he confessed that he was not a soldier but paraded himself as one in order to secure the release of his friend in police custody.
He said he grew up in an army barracks in Minna, adding that the uniform in his possession belonged to his late father who was a soldier.
Parading him in Minna, police spokesman Wasiu Abiodun said some exhibits including a wooden gun, two axes, a jackknife, two kit bags, two green trousers, one army camouflage vest, shirt, boot, face cap, and a walking stick were recovered from the suspect. Abiodun said the suspect was possibly engaging in robbery with his wooden weapon.
