Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa state has said electing a President from the North East will bring an end to the insurgency being witnessed in different parts of the country. The governor said this when he spoke at the 2021 North East Star Magazine awards on Thursday.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Prof. Maxwell Gidado, Governor Fintiri opined that insurgency in the North East would end within the first term of the Presidency of any candidate of North Eastern extraction.
According to him, former chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, did his best in trying to bring the insurgency to the end but his effort only resulted in modest gains because the counter-insurgency efforts did not get the 100 per cent support required from the presidency.
Uche Secondus, a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the court to stop the party from conducting the National Convention which has been scheduled to take place on October 30 and 31, 2021.
In a letter addressed to the party (6th respondent) by his counsel, Tayo Oyetibo (SAN) on Friday, Secondus said the planned convention should be suspended pending the outcome of his case in the court. Recall that following the crisis that recently rocked the party, a Rivers State High Court had on September 10, asked Secondus to stop parading himself as chairman of the party. The High Court restrained the former chairman from performing the functions of the office of the National Chairman of the PDP.
Hoodlums suspected to be sponsored by the Nigerian government on Thursday attacked human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore despite the heavy presence of security operativesaround the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Sowore was denied access into the court by the security operatives. But as he was still talking to the security men, some boys numbering about 20, it was observed, arrived.
The activist was prevented from entering the court premises because of the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), being held there.
The hoodlums then approached the activist and attacked him. It took the intervention of journalists for him to be rescued.

Despite the explosion that rocked the Abuja-Kaduna rail track on Thursday this week, Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, Ali Ndume is confident that the security challenges in the country are going down.

The federal government has blamed the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its military wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), for some violent attacks in Lagos and other parts of the country during the October 2020 #EndSARS protest.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo has confirmed that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state and Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto have indicated interest in contesting in the 2023 presidential election.
Makinde confirmed this in an interview on Channels Television on Thursday October 21.
The Oyo state Governor noted that Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party understand the need for unity ahead of next general election, adding that the only way to stop the opposition party in the 2023 presidential election is by dividing it.
Bello Shagari, grandson of late former President Shehu Shagari has claimed that some youths identify with the #EndSARS protest because it has become fashionable.
Bello in his Facebook post, claimed that a lot of young people identify with the protest even though they have little understanding of the socio-political system.
According to him, young people should not focus so much on protests when they can mobilize others to “achieve a change in the entire political system, or to change our present realities, or at least to be in charge of them.”
