Judge rejects Trump’s bid to withhold records as capitol riot investigation continues

Trump “does not acknowledge the deference owed to the incumbent president’s judgment. His position that he may override the express will of the executive branch appears to be premised on the notion that his executive power ‘exists in perpetuity,'” the judge wrote. “But presidents are not kings, and plaintiff is not president.”

A US judge has ruled a congressional committee investigating the Capitol riot can access some of ex-President Donald Trump’s White House records.
Trump wanted to invoke executive privilege, under which presidential documents can be kept secret.
The inquiry by the congressional committee is trying to find out if Trump had prior knowledge of the capitol riot.
Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building on 6 January as Congress was certifying President Joe Biden’s election victory after Trump refused to acknowledge losing the election last year, claiming – without evidence – that it had been rigged.

Death row Inmate John Grant vomits and convulses as he

Oklahoma has executed a man for the 1998 stabbing death of a prison cafeteria worker, the state’s first lethal injection in six-years after the US supreme court on Thursday cleared the way for the execution to proceed.
John Marion Grant, 60, was declared dead at 4.21pm after being strapped to a gurney inside the execution chamber and given a lethal injection of three drugs.

The Associated Press said Department of Corrections spokesman Justin Wolf told it in an email that the execution “was carried out in accordance with Oklahoma Department of Corrections’ protocols and without complication.”
The AP cites observers as saying inmates vomiting while being executed is extremely rare. Michael Graczyk, a retired AP reporter who still covers executions for the AP as a freelancer and has witnessed about 450 executions said Thursday he could only remember one time when someone vomited during the procedure.

Facebook Reportedly Changes Name To Meta – Mark Zuckerberg

Facebook changes name to Meta

Facebook has changed its name to “Meta”.
Mark Zuckerberg, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Facebook, announced the name change in a statement issued on Thursday, October 28.

According to him, the change of name will reflect the company’s efforts on rebranding its future operations.
“To reflect who we are and the future we hope to build, I’m proud to share that our company is now Meta,” Zuckerberg said.

He continued: “Our mission remains the same — it’s still about bringing people together. Our apps and their brands aren’t changing either. We’re still the company that designs technology around people.
“But all of our products, including our apps, now share a new vision: to help bring the metaverse to life. And now we have a name that reflects the breadth of what we do.

“From now on, we will be metaverse-first, not Facebook-first. That means that over time you won’t need a Facebook account to use our other services. As our new brand starts showing up in our products, I hope people around the world come to know the Meta brand and the future we stand for.”

Serial killer nurse who enjoyed injecting patients with air ‘for fun’ sentenced to death

A serial killer nurse who killed patients by injecting them with air “for fun” has been sentenced to death in Texas.
The former nurse at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances in Tyler who was charged with killing multiple patients back in 2017 and 2018, was sentenced to death by a Smith County jury.

37-year-old Davis who worked in the hospital’s cardiovascular ICU wing was found guilty on October 19 by a jury, of injecting air into Christopher Greenaway, 47; Jose Kalina, 58; Ronald Clark, 68; and John Lafferty, 74.
The court heard that doctors were puzzled how the patients became more ill after surgery and scans showed air in their brains, reported the New York Times.

The case which was beset for years with delays from the pandemic, changes in attorneys and other reasons, was prosecuted by Smith County District Attorney Jacob Putman who inherited the case after his contested election in 2018. It has been arguably the most high-profile trial East Texas has seen in at least a decade.

During the trial’s sentencing phase, prosecutors played for the jury recordings of telephone calls Davis made from jail shortly after the Oct. 19 guilty verdict. In a call to his ex-wife, Davis said he would find ways to prolong patients’ ICU stays so he could work more overtime and make more money.
