Judge declares bandits groups terrorists

A federal high Court in Abuja on Friday has finally declared the activities of bandits’ groups as acts of terrorism.

Mohammed Abubakar — the Director of Public Prosecution — DPP, of the Federation, had filed an ex-parte application seeking to proscribe the grisly activities of ‘bandits’ who have been vicious in kidnapping and killing their captives across Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Benue and Sokoto states.

Abubakar accused bandits of waging a relentless war against ordinary Nigerians in the North-west and North-central States.

Senator Shehu Sani has reacted to Buhari government’s decision to give poor Nigerians N5000 as transport grant once fuel subsidy has been removed. Read here.

The senator in a tweet said the increase in petrol will cause an increase across all sectors in the economy. He said that the Federal government must be living in Mars to believe that the N5000 can solve all the problems that poor Nigerians will face due to the subsidy removal.

2022: President Buhari to cancel fuel subsidy, pay N5,000 transport grant to 40m Nigerians

Zainab Ahmed, Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning has said the federal government will remove fuel subsidies by 2022. According to her, fuel subsidies will be replaced with N5000-a-month transport grant to the poorest Nigerians.
Ahmed stated this on Tuesday, while speaking at the launch of the World Bank Nigeria Development Update (NDU).
The minister noted the grant will go to about 30 to 40 million Nigerians, who make up the poorest population of the country.

APC: Malami lobbied to stop Buhari from signing electoral bill

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has allegedly reached out to Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), to stop President Muhammadu Buhari, from signing the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.

National Assembly had on Tuesday pass the bill.

Although, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has also condemned the passage of the bill, the House of Representatives had stated on Tuesday that it would consider a veto if Buhari fails to assent to the bill, while members of the Senate expressed the same sentiment.

The APC Governors’ Forum is looking to use the influence of the Governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu, to talk to Malami who is from the state and is reported to be nursing a governorship ambition in 2023

The Northern christian elders has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint indigenous christians from Katsina before talking about Nigeria’s unity.

In a statement by its chairman, Ejoha Onyinehi, the Christian elders on Sunday described the call by the president for Nigerians to unite in his recent 61st-anniversary broadcast as mere rhetoric if he fails to practice what he preaches.

“We join the president in appealing for a united, equitable, Nigeria that is fair and just to all, irrespective of religion, tribe, origin or region. We, however, add that unity must first begin with the president himself. Let him unite the nation by bringing people together through appointments, that are not based on mere relationship with him or religion or any primordial considerations but competent hands, across religious, tribal and regional divides.

FG budgets N104bn to maintain and?purchase generators in 2022

The Federal Government of Nigeria has budgeted an estimated N104bn on purchasing generators, fuelling and servicing them for Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the FG.

This is contained in the 2022 budget proposal which has yet to be approved by the National Assembly.

The Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, headed by Zainab Ahmed, set aside N82.03bn for generators, that is 80 per cent of the entire budget, making it the ministry with the lion’s share of the generator budget.
